Ways to bypass OMR toll

I am not advocating to use this method to save money, but i am just sharing some of the common ways IT and general folks are practising to by pass OMR toll fees.

Do you know, If you enter through Perungudi , you can use the same ticket and exit in another toll. Believe me a lot of folks dont know this yet. (NRI folks in particular). So get in Perungudi and exit through Thoraipakkam, or ecr or egattur or sholinganallur toll. Pay just Rs 17.

Recently i heard this. Folks who are coming from Medavakkam or tambaram and enter IT corridor through Toll on the Medavakkam-Sholinganallur toll dont buy TOLL TICKETS. YES THEY DONT BUY. Just go the toll both and say you are going to ECR. Since ECR toll is diagonally opposite this toll, the TOLL FEE is not charged. You get a receipt and you can use the same to exit ECR toll.

So our smart citizens get a toll receipt at Medavakkam-Sholinganallur toll saying they are going to ECR and instead of going to ECR , they simply take a right or left on IT corridor and go to their IT company,

While returning, this is tricky. People take a narrow lane next to Satyam Sholinganallur and by pass the ECR toll. They again go to ECR toll and ask for TOLL ticket to go to Tambaram. This time they really take the toll ticket and hand it over at Medavakkam-Sholinganallur toll booth.

Dont encourage this but if the toll fee is reduced and better road is provided one would not mind spending Rs 600 -Rs 1000 for using a good road. I never feel bad paying Rs 150 for going to salem from chennai. Its a beautiful road. I can travel at 120km/hour.

In omr  only in nights. 3 days back i saw a person killed near CTS  thoraipakkam. He was lying a pool of blood. 10 police officers where there. One guy was even taking a video , but no ambullance. Felt bad for that guy.

OMR is just OH MY GOD for me

What’s the big deal here? When you enter a toll road, you pay for it and then you use the same ticket to exit from any other toll booth on the same road! (or you enter a toll road without paying, but pay when you exit) only a NINCOMPOOP (NRIs included) would purchase a toll ticket while entering a toll road and ALSO exiting the same toll road !

Actually they issue you someting called a “zero rupee ticket” which you are supposed to surrender on the opposite sid. i.e if you enter from Medavakkam and say you are going to ECR, they give you a zero rupee ticket, which you surrender at the ECR side exit. The toll boot attendants at Perungudi and Siruseri exits are supposed to check this, but during the peak traffic sometimes just don’t bother. Even though I do agree that in the current state OMR is just not worthy of being called an IT highway/expressway/toll road, this is a dishonest practice and our IT kepmaris of all people can very well afford to spend this money. With just 2 lanes either side available most of the stretch, uncontrolled and chaotic traffic, collection of toll is not justified, I do agree, but that is a different matter.

    Krishna, Thanks for your comments.

My first part what i meant was people are not aware that they can use the same tickets to exit. Even i did not read the toll ticket properly and paid twice. I used to enter via thoraipakkam and pay for going out via perungudi.

I think you are not aware of this. You have to purchase while entering any where in OMR. If you want to exit OMR through the same toll, you have get return toll ticket which is Rs 30.
