Development regulations – a comparison of three cities

It is a coincidence that the planning authorities of the three major South Indian cities, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, have come out with their master plans for development almost at the same time. The problems, potentials and prospects are different for these cities even though the aims or goals of the master plan are more or less the same. Each city has been citing the other’s development plan either to push its own or to criticise the other.

This article and the following ones will make a comparative and critical analysis of the plans and rules proposed. This week we begin with the FSI or Floor Space Index that has been in debate across the cities.
