Do you know, If you enter through Perungudi , you can use the same ticket and exit in another toll. Believe me a lot of folks dont know this yet. (NRI folks in particular). So get in Perungudi and exit through Thoraipakkam, or ecr or egattur or sholinganallur toll. Pay just Rs 17.

Recently i heard this. Folks who are coming from Medavakkam or tambaram and enter IT corridor through Toll on the Medavakkam-Sholinganallur toll dont buy TOLL TICKETS. YES THEY DONT BUY. Just go the toll both and say you are going to ECR. Since ECR toll is diagonally opposite this toll, the TOLL FEE is not charged. You get a receipt and you can use the same to exit ECR toll.

So our smart citizens get a toll receipt at Medavakkam-Sholinganallur toll saying they are going to ECR and instead of going to ECR , they simply take a right or left on IT corridor and go to their IT company,

While returning, this is tricky. People take a narrow lane next to Satyam Sholinganallur and by pass the ECR toll. They again go to ECR toll and ask for TOLL ticket to go to Tambaram. This time they really take the toll ticket and hand it over at Medavakkam-Sholinganallur toll booth.

Dont encourage this but if the toll fee is reduced and better road is provided one would not mind spending Rs 600 -Rs 1000 for using a good road. I never feel bad paying Rs 150 for going to salem from chennai. Its a beautiful road. I can travel at 120km/hour.

In omr only in nights. 3 days back i saw a person killed near CTS thoraipakkam. He was lying a pool of blood. 10 police officers where there. One guy was even taking a video , but no ambullance. Felt bad for that guy.

OMR is just OH MY GOD for me

A committee appointed by the Madras high court, which came for an inspection to the Perungudi sewage treatment plant (STP) on Tuesday night, was met by angry residents, who have been facing health problems reportedly due to the gases emnating from the plant.

M Harinath, the four-yearold-son of Manohar, an IT professional in Perungudi, woke up recently with breathing difficulty. He was rushed to the family doctor. But Harinath was not suffering from any ailment. His symptoms match those of more than 1,000 residents in Perungudi. The cause, according to residents: gases released from the STP.
The objective of setting up the STP in Perungudi was to ensure that it did not affect people in the city. However, the growth of Perungudi as an industrial township upset all plans. The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (CMWSSB), which runs the plant, upgraded it about three months ago and officials termed its running as “efficient.” However, residents near the plant said they were unable to bear the stench of gases released from the unit.
“The smell persists between midnight and 5 am. Some of us get throat pain regularly. The elders have giddy spells and cough from time to time,” said Palanivel Rajan, a resident.
“I believe it is the hydrogen sulphide that is causing the sickness. Every morning, we wake up to the foul smell. The negligence on part of Metrowater needs to be stopped before it seriously affects people. We called the Metrowater phone number to complain, but there was no proper response,” Rajan said.
P Balakumar, an IT professional, said residents had submitted a petition to an expert committee on the Pallikaranai marsh, which had met two months ago. “When we complained to Metrowater officials, but they gave excuses, saying, for example, that maintenance work was going on or that the generator was not working,” he said.
CMWSSB officials said they had planted saplings in the STP premises to reduce the smell. “We built the plant on the city’s outskirts so that the gases would not affect people. But houses were built around the plant. There is bound to be stench from STPs as dirty water is treated. If residents say that the stink lasts only for a few hours in the morning, then it may be due to the wind,” a senior official said. He added that the smell emanated more from the dumping yard than from the STP. “Anyhow, we will probe the issue,” he said.

Consider this, a KG of apple is Rs 100, Rice at 36 /kg, Milk a litre cost 23-24 , Oil almost touched 100 and now retreated to Rs 70. Basmati rice branded are costing anywhere between 80-100. Earlier in 2006 i remember buying raw rice for 21, basmati for 40-45 , milk at 13 per liter, oil was around 60. Mini Coke or Pepsi cost Rs 9 and earlier i remember it was Rs 6.

Got to know bus travel has tremendously increased with average ticket around Rs 10-12 for deluxe bus travel. Well its the same slow travel but higher priced. A simple 1km ride in share auto cost Rs 10 which was earlier only 5.

I do attribute a lot of these high cost due to recent spending power of IT folks. While they could afford earlier now things have changed even for them but that did not reduce the price of daily essentials. I was recently seeing a advt in TV for Religare pension plan which said Plan now and be prepared to buy bus ticket for Rs 500.

I think those days will come faster then we think. Sooner 1000 rupees will lose its value and people will draw 1 Lakh rupees from ATMs much like its happening in Zimbabwe.Money is flowing like Water and with rising population and cost, its any bodies guess Chennai is slowly becoming pricy along with other metro’s like Mumbai and Delhi.

I wonder how people are paying Rs 70 for a Dosa at Sarvana Bhavan, even though i am a big fan of its taste, i simply dont encourage its high pricing.

I was one of the early adopters to the Hindu ePaper. Not only am a avid fan of Hindu but i never like to miss the daily special magazines which gives a lot of information. I particularly like the property plus on saturdays. Hindu untill now charged $10 for a months subscription of its ePaper. I even remember writing a mail to Hindu’s office urging them to reduce the charges but with no reply.

Recently i noticed that Hindu has cut its ePaper charges to almost 65%. Now the monthly charge is $3.75. I think poor subscription and free ePaper from the Economic times and the move the TOI to start a chennai edition has made them to sit and make changes to their charges.

I feel Hindu should be affected a bit in advt revenue once TOI comes to Chennai. At present one can read the entire paper online from the site http://epaper.timesofindia.com . It would be good to see if even their Chennai edition is added to its free list. Ever wondered where i got the advt about PLOTS AT PORUR by LVB, it is from ECONOMIC TIMES, Chennai edition epaper.

So stay in touch with your home town the most effective way and make correct investment decisions.
